Were you aware that there is a tax credit that applies to sites dispensing E85 fuel? Here's how it works.
The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit applies to eligible fueling properties installed at qualified locations from January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2032. This includes specific fueling equipment for E85. Businesses can receive a tax credit for:
- 6% of the depreciable costs, up to $100,000 per item; or,
- 30% of the depreciable costs, up to $100,000 per item, if the installation meets U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements.
Looking to Offer E85 at Your Site?
Want to offer E85, but worried that your Submersible Turbine Pump (STP) isn’t compatible? The Red Jacket® Alcohol Gas and Red Armor® STP models have you covered! Both are certified UL 79A and UL 79B for use with renewable biofuels including E85.
- The Red Jacket Alcohol Gas STP has all the advantages of The Red Jacket Submersible Turbine Pump platform, while also including an additional 25% in stainless steel hardware of its major components.
- The Red Armor STP has an over 30% increase in stainless steel hardware of major components from The Red Jacket AG STP. It has all the advantages of the Red Jacket Submersible Turbine Pump design but was constructed specifically to withstand corrosive environments.
Upgrading to either STP lets your site offer more alternative fuels and can help you qualify for the credit above*.
The Bottom Line
Offering E85 may give you new opportunities to take advantage of tax incentives and government credits. If your current fueling system isn’t compatible with E85, it could result in infrastructure degradation and corrosion. Switching to the Red Jacket Alcohol Gas STP or the Red Armor STP gives you the unmatched fuel flexibility you need to add E85 and ensure your site is resilient in the harsh alternative fuel environment.
