Certified Technician Training

We offer manufacturer-authorized training in a variety of different products using three distinct methods:
  • Self-paced Home Study Courses
  • Classes taught by Professional Staff Trainers
  • Classes taught by Authorized and Certified Trainers in various geographic locations in the US and Canada.
The following is a list of the product certifications and methods of training offered in these products.

Self-Paced Home Study Courses

Learning Management System

Our system employs the use of an online Learning Management System (LMS) to administer, assess and track all training courses and certifications. All students must be able to access the Internet via a broadband connection and a Windows-based PC. The computer should meet the following minimum specifications:

  • 500 MHz processor
  • Internet Explorer 5.5+ (Users who use AOL™ to access the web must open a separate IE window.)
  • 1024 X 768 screen running at true color resolution
  • Sound card & multimedia speakers (or headphones) with adjustable volume
  • Firewall and browser adjusted to allow all content from http://wise.gilbarco.com – user must configure anti-spyware & ad blocking programs (Norton, Google, Yahoo, etc.) to allow content from (wise.gilbarco.com).
  • Attached printer (if printing certificates)

All students must have a current & valid personal email address. The Training Department will communicate with the student directly with course instructions and administrative matters. Students without an email address can easily obtain a free email address through online services such as Yahoo, MSN & Hotmail. The Training Department does not officially endorse or recommend any particular service.

All North American Technicians should have an LMS technician number beginning with "A" or "B", followed by a 5-digit number. This technician number will reference ALL of the technician’s training records across all product lines. The technician will use this number when calling Technical Support or the Training Department. Any technician who does not know their technician number may request it by using a New Student Form. 

Regardless of the course into which a student is enrolled, he must have a current Safety Certificate before his enrollment will be processed.  This is a free online course that must be completed yearly. 

The student will be solely responsible for the following with regard to the Learning Management System:

  • Keeping vital statistics updated (address, phone, email, etc.) within the system
  • Having their Service Manager notify the Training Department when changing employment (student may not change this themselves in the LMS)
  • Printing their own certifications (the Training Department no longer mails certification diplomas or cards). The technician’s number appears on each certificate.
  • Maintaining certification (all GVR products require some type of recertification –see RECERTIFICATION below)

Tuition

All self-paced and GVR Staff-led courses will require that tuition be paid in advance of the course. For these courses, all necessary electronic documentation and online fees are included in the tuition amount. Because of state tax requirements, paper-based manuals may require an additional fee (which will be taxed according to the location of the student). See Course Registration Form for pricing.

In addition, distributors may fax or email a purchase order to the Training Department (336-547-5377 for fax or technicaltraining@gilbarco.com for email).  The registrar will invoice the distributor for the tuition amount (net 30).

Gilbarco Veeder-Root Technical Training does not regulate tuition costs for its authorized field trainers. Tuition for CT courses may vary according to the geographic location of the trainer or other factors. See the attached CT Matrix and contact them directly for tuition amounts or scheduling information. Tuition for CT courses will be sent directly to the Certified Trainer.

Cancellation

Applies ONLY to Factory Classroom-taught Courses. The Training Registrar must be notified at least one week in advance of the course to receive refund of tuition. Gilbarco cannot be held responsible for penalties incurred by airline ticket cancellations or schedule changes.

Occasionally (but not often), emergencies or low enrollment in a class will force us to cancel. We will contact you with no less than two weeks’ notice in this event. Do not book non-refundable airline tickets.

Blended Coursework

Many Certified Technical Training courses require that the student complete an online module prior to attending the training event. If this is required, the student MAY NOT attend the instructor-led session until the online course has been completed, regardless of the distance traveled. No refunds will be made for students who do not successfully complete the online coursework.

Recertification

All Certified Technical Training courses require the technician to periodically recertify via online testing or other method. The certifications and methods are as follows:

Note - Technicians who have allowed their Veeder-Root Technician certification to expire must request a Startup/Service exam ($50) from the training department.  Once they have passed this exam, they may request enrollment in a Technician recertification course (online or through a Certified Trainer).

To recertify in all courses, contact the Technical Training Registrar via email and include the following information:

  1. Complete name
  2. Valid email address(es)
  3. Employing company (& branch, if applicable)
  4. LMS Technician # (If you do not know this, then you must complete a New Student Form.)
  5. Product(s) in which you wish to recertify

Important Recertification Notes:

  • If the technician cannot pass any recertification exam on the second attempt, he must return to the original method of certification, even if that method involves tuition and/or travel to an instructor-led event.
  • Any technician allowing their certification to lapse for more than 3 years will be removed from the technician database and must certify in that product again.
  • A student may request the recertification course no more than 6 months prior to the expiration date.
