The EMR3, which mounts directly to the most common positive displacement flow meters, has proven time and again that it can help management keep a keen eye on daily operations and, as a result, make process improvements that have a direct impact on the bottom line.
"EMR3 has helped identify inefficiencies in some of our business practices," reports General Manager, Dundee Dykstra of Badger Fuel and Gas, North Pole, Alaska. "It's been a catalyst in driving home process change." The product's database stores the last 50 transactions. At the touch of a button, managers can review where and when deliveries were made and how much time elapsed between stops. "As a direct result of monitoring the data in the EMR3 shift reports, we've re-trained operators when applicable to improve distribution time and actually make more deliveries in a given day," Dykstra said.
Additional EMR3 features heralded by customers as money and time saving benefits include the ability to program temperature compensation to adjust for shrinkage; the ability to print an invoice on demand to reduce days' sales outstanding; the need to invest in only one IB box for multi-pump trucks; the overall reduction in maintenance cycles; and the ability to integrate hand-held devices to communicate with various operating software packages.
"Customers like Badger Fuel Oil report that various EMR3 attributes directly reduce operating expenses. This is no accident," said Veeder-Root Vice President and General Manager, Jeff Adams of Altoona, PA. According to Adams, before the EMR3 was on the drawing board, the company did its due diligence by performing a lengthy "needs analysis" to research the market and collect customer requirements. "We engineered the product according to the specifications provided by those who would use and service it," Adams reported.
The customer feedback loop is a progression at Veeder-Root and one that's made EMR3 the meter of choice for so many fuel retailers. Adams indicated that a series of software enhancements is scheduled for release sometime during the first quarter of this year. "We regularly gather feedback from our customers and make product enhancements as warranted. Many of the upcoming software changes are based on recommendations from our user base. In affect, the changes will make the product even easier to use and will expound on the already known money and time saving aspects of EMR3 and its accessories."
Tom Duffey, owner and operator of Kelley Energy in Philadelphia, PA, cites an easy-to-use, economically oriented feature as one of many deciding factors when considering which electronic register to outfit his fleet. "The EMR3 has the unique characteristic of being able to adjust the pre-set on the fly. If my customer decides she wants 100 gallons instead of 200 gallons, the operator simply shuts down the nozzle, hits the pre-set button and adjusts the delivery amount." According to Duffey, it's not so easy with other electronic registers. "The delivery must be terminated, tickets must be replaced, and everything must be shut down manually which is very, very time consuming."
Moreover, with the EMR3, customers are not limited to volume deliveries - operators can pump a dollar amount as well. "That's significant in areas where COD is the norm," explained Duffey. "In a taxing situation, a customer may not have the funds required to fill his tank that month. The EMR3 makes it easy for us to provide a quick solution that gets the customer what he needs, and, at the same time, doesn't impede our other scheduled deliveries."
In addition to the innate timesaving product features of EMR3, Veeder-Root has made yet another commitment to alacrity - a short time between placing an order and receipt of goods. "The sooner we deliver the product, the sooner a firm can begin to realize the full economic benefits of all it has to offer," described Adams. Except for unusually large orders, Veeder-Root will ship orders within three business days.
